Travel with blondewalk: Las Vegas

We tend to visit the entertainment capital of the world yearly for its unparalleled energy, nightlife, shopping and shows. With 40 million visitors per year, we find people-watching is an activity in itself.

We have stayed in various hotels over the years, but our top picks are the Encore and the Cosmopolitan.

The Encore is the second tower to the Wynn and arguably has the best panoramic view of the strip. It has luxurious suites, a beautiful casino, delicious restaurants and multiple pool options. If you want the grand Vegas experience, the Encore is the place for you.

The Cosmopolitan wins for their upbeat vibe and spectacular balcony views of the strip. It appeals to a younger (livelier) demographic because of its trendy spacious rooms and over the top pool scene. The location is mid strip, which is another reason why we love it so much. If you have the option, opt for a room facing the Bellagio fountains – you will not be disappointed.

blondewalk tips:

– Be cautious of extra fees (resort, heavy cleaning and extra person)
– Check in between 3pm-7pm (for the best chance to be upgraded)
– If you stay past the checkout time, you may have to pay another night’s stay
– The distance between each hotel is deceptive

The strip offers an array of high-end shopping including The Forum Shops at Caesars Palace and The Grand Canal Shoppes at The Palazzo. Both of these buildings are true works of art. So even if you don’t go for the shopping, take in the cultural experience.

For more traditional shopping experiences, visit the Fashion Show Mall (beside Treasure Island) and Las Vegas Premium Outlets (North and South locations) which is located off the strip. The North Outlet offers more of our favourite stores and is mainly outdoors.

Our favourite show to date is Le Rêve at the Wynn. The show occurs in a massive water theatre featuring over the top special effects. The theatre is in the shape of a circle, making almost every seat in the auditorium a good one. Considering Le Rêve is not a Cirque du Soleil production, its cost is a lot more reasonable and offers the same quality of entertainment.

Witnessing dueling pianos can be extremely entertaining and Vegas is the best place to experience it. The shows at New York New York and the Harrahs Hotel both play the classics and current pop hits. Seats at both places fill up quickly, so make sure you arrive early.

We can’t forget about the legendary Celine Dion at Caesars Palace. If you’re visiting in August or September, be sure to catch her returning show – you won’t want to miss this spectacular production.

Home to many celebrity chefs and multiple Michelin-Star winners, this city has recently become known as one of the best places to eat. Hotel Paris is home to two of our favourite places to dine including Gordon Ramsey Steak and the Eiffel Tower Restaurant.

Gordon Ramsey Steaks is incredibly well known (for good reason) and the overall experience does not disappoint. The Hell’s Kitchen Tasting is a great option if you want to try multiple menu items. The five course meal includes three of Ramsey’s classics – scallop risotto, roasted beef wellington and sticky toffee pudding for dessert. This type of quality does not come cheap – approx. $145 per person with the option to add a wine pairing for $75 per person.

The Eiffel Tower is a beautiful upscale restaurant which overlooks the Bellagio fountains. Our favorite item on their à la carte menu is the roasted farm raised chicken. It is hard to decide between their potato sides (all are amazing) which include crispy potato croquettes, classic potato gratin and galette of potato anna. Be sure to order their classic soufflé for dessert, which must be ordered in advance (with your entrée) because it takes 45 mins to bake.

Lavo, located at the Palazzo, is a beautiful Italian eatery with a large patio that overlooks the strip. It is a classic Italian experience specializing in pastas, but it’s also a great place to stop for a few cocktails. Their most recognizable item is the meatball appetizer which consists of kobe beef topped with homemade ricotta cheese (big enough to share).
