Our top purchases 2016

best purchases justine - blondewalkIt’s no secret that in retail and fashion there are items that you’ll purchase that are here-today-gone-tomorrow trends. This year we attempted to buy pieces with careful consideration – to ensure we avoided impulsive spending. We might have ended up with fewer items in our house (or closet), but overall we are happier with our buying decisions.

We are sharing our top purchases of the year that are reliable staples worth obtaining.

Starting your Christmas shopping soon? We hope this post will also give you gift ideas for the ladies on your list.

Brit’s Top 5

1. Mackage – Kenya jacket (in black)

It might sound dramatic, but some bought items can be life changing. This is exactly how I feel about my new leather jacket. My girlfriend, Spencer, has had this jacket for a few years and highly recommended it. So when it went on sale (in July) at Aritzia, there was no question on whether I needed it. I have owned other leather jackets, but this one is slightly more fitted and cropped – making it ideal worn over dresses and tanks.

2. Urban Barn – Classic area rug

Since we moved into our new house in March of this year, I had been on the search for a living room rug. After six months of pondering, I found this vintage looking Turkish rug at Urban barn. I couldn’t be happier with the colour combination and pattern.

3. Masion Margiela – Replica perfume

Being a huge lover of Jo Malone, I wasn’t on the search for a new fragrance. One day at Sephora I was testing out new perfumes and I completely fell in love with this scent (packaging and name). Reminding me of Santa Monica, this fragrance by Maison Margiela has me dreaming of the beach.

4. Mother Denim – The Looker Ankle Fray in Guilty as Sin

Mother Denim is brand new to the the Loft and my life. With only owning them a month, the Looker Ankle already wins for the item worn most often. From the subtle knee slits to the raw hem, I truly LOVE everything about this pair of jeans.

5. Letterfolk – Letter board

A new take on an old classic. This letterboard by Letterfolk allows your walls to talk. With changeable letters, I love adding personality into our home. Considering Justine and I enjoy hosting parties, my favourite use for the board is utilizing it to display menu items or party messages.

1. Joie – Tammy sweatshirt (in black)

Bought during my pregnancy, this sweater has been through it all (and still looks perfect). I feel it’s quite an accomplishment for a clothing item to make someone feel fashionable during pregnancy and post baby AND still be comfortable. The asymmetrical hem of the sweater also allows for it to be worn with  leggings because it is longer in the back. If you are pregnant or planning to be, this sweater is for you!

2. Leila Jewelry – short bar necklace

When Elanna was born, I knew I wanted to purchase a special piece of jewelry to remind me of her. When I found the short bar personalized necklace from Leila Jewelry, I knew it was perfect. This gold necklace is trendy and simple enough to be worn everyday. I look forward to passing it down to Elanna in the future.

3. Native Wilds – Nest

Because the weather in YXE is not always great, I knew I would need to purchase a car seat cover. I didn’t think I would find one I would actually “love”, until I came across the Nest by Native Wilds. Functioning as a car seat cover, nursing scarf and stroller cover, I don’t often leave my house without it.

4. Gather – Leather mat

I have loved the gathre mats since I first learned about them on Instagram. They are made of bonded leather which allows for easy cleaning. I have found it perfect for everyday use as a play mat or outside for a picnic. I loved my first mat so much, I ended up buying a smaller secondary one to use on Elanna’s change table.

5. Tory Burch – Nylon baby bag

I’m pretty sure I’m not the only mom who uses a diaper bag as a purse. I had a feeling that was going to happen, so earlier this year I splurged on the Tory Burch diaper bag. Complete with multiple compartments and a baby change mat, I honestly can’t imagine life without it. An added bonus – it’s made of nylon so it is easily cleaned.
