In the city: Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival

SFDF - blondewalk

For being a small prairie province, Saskatchewan is host to many coveted events. This year (November 5th & 6th) marks the fifth year for the Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival (SFDF), held in Saskatoon. Co-founders and directors, Jacqueline Conway and Mandy Pravda, have created an event that brings together and promotes local designers, boutiques, dancers, musicians and visual artists. To celebrate a successful five years, the SFDF is also hosting an anniversary party which will be held Saturday night following the runway show with live music and intriguing art installations courtesy of local (and internationally renowned) artists: DJ The Gaff, VJ Carrie Gates and event contractors Pro Plus Productions.

We connected with Mandy Pravda, to get the latest scope on the SFDF including the schedule of events and what is new for this year’s show.

Event: Saskatoon Fashion & Design Festival Runway
Location: Saskatoon, SK, Canada
Date: November 5th-6th, 2016

Who should attend the Saskatchewan Fashion & Design Festival? (Is it only for individuals and companies in the fashion industry? Is it an event for men and children? Are children welcome?)

Our festival is for everyone! Priding ourselves on being inclusive, fashion is about expression, and everyone like to express themselves! We will have women’s, men’s and children’s wear shown and sold over the weekend, this is also a great time for Christmas shopping!

While we are on topic, you can expect to see high end produced runway shows with flare and entertainment for everyone! SFDF Runway has evolved in many ways over the years. Originally starting in Mercedes Benz dealership, and this year taking place in the Adam Ballroom of the Bessborough Hotel, we create an experience like no other here in Saskatoon by using many mediums including visual art, theater, choreographed dance, and of course beautiful collections designed right here in Saskatchewan. Nontraditional runways and cutting edge technology make it all possible, it is an experience you don’t want to miss!

We are also celebrating our 5th year anniversary of the festival by hosting a “Deconstructed” party Saturday Nov 5th after the SFDF runway show. Unique and edgy we will toast to a great 5 years and all that we have accomplished, we have a few surprises up our sleeve and we invite everyone who has been involved in helping build this fashion hub to come out to celebrate with us! If this is your first time hearing about SFDF we would love to see you as well!

What is new about this year’s event?

Aside from working with a new location, which we are really excited for, we are implementing a conference to the festival. By providing workshops and knowledge sharing opportunities we can expect that the fashion industry will benefit and grow by collaborating and educating in areas such as marketing, branding, merchandising, reputation management, business development, hands on model and photography workshops, and networking. We have many professional right here in Saskatoon that have now grown to have international reputations and businesses. We want to provide the opportunity for them to share and pass on the knowledge to up and coming designers, models, photographers and entrepreneurs who can then thrive and expand their own dreams.
