What was the most enjoyable part of the planning?
Planning a wedding is not easy. Thankfully, some of my bridesmaids had gone through the same planning process recently, so I could rely on their checklists and helpful guidance. Seeing my vision come to life was the most enjoyable and rewarding part of the wedding planning experience. Working with composers and musicians to select the ideal pieces of music for each component of the wedding was also highly enjoyable.

What was the most important aspect of the wedding – the one thing you knew you had to splurge on?
Venues are rather expensive and hotel receptions are always at the top of the price range, but the second we walked into the ballroom, we knew it was the perfect choice. Built in 1931, the stunning historical features of the Adam ballroom speaks for itself. In addition, having a top-quality photographer was extremely important to us. Since we decided not to film our wedding, pictures are all we have to look back on. And trust me; they are worth finding a bit of extra money in your budget to splurge on.

Saying I do in J.Crew – how did you decide on the bridesmaid/groomsmen attire?
It didn’t take long for me to realize J.Crew was the perfect choice for our bridal party apparel. The men sported the worsted wool vests along with the slim fit Ludlow pant in charcoal grey. The ladies selected their preferred style of the misty rose silk chiffon dresses. The dresses are chic and extremely lightweight and perfectly complimented the men in grey. It was incredible to have all of the ladies coordinate, without looking too matchy-matchy. I would recommend taking advantage of the J.Crew wedding stylists, they basically hold a PhD in weddings and are always willing to help.

What process did you go through in deciding which music to incorporate?
Now this was the fun part! Once the music was decided, everything else fell into place; the entire mood was set for the wedding. A string quartet provided us with an elegant feel from start to finish. We wanted the prelude music to make the guests feel welcome and relaxed, therefore the strings opened up the ceremony with familiar Beatles classics. We chose Love Themes from Cinema Paradiso, Morricone for the processional. Three separate love themes flowed into each other throughout the processional with lighter, airy themes for the bridesmaids, building up to powerful and romantic ending when I walked down the aisle. Other pieces chosen for special music consisted of Un Amore Così Grande and Nella Fantasia. Can you sense the Italian theme? The quartet sent us on our way with the Game of Thrones theme song for the recessional, A Song of Ice and Fire. My husband is a massive fan so this was a highlight for him! To this day, we still receive compliments about the music on our wedding day, making it the most memorable aspect of the day.

Looking back at the day, would you change anything?
Honestly, I wouldn’t.

What is some advice you can give blondewalk readers who are in the midst of planning their wedding?

  • Plan, plan, plan! Planning is vital for creating a stress free (if that is possible?!) wedding day.
  • Read wedding blogs for inspiration. My favorites are: 100 Layer Cake & Style Me Pretty
  • Talk openly with your fiancé about the details of the wedding. It’s important that you do what represents you and your husband-to-be.
  • Be realistic about the budget (DIY projects are a great way to reduce the cost).
  • Enjoy every moment of your day. It will be over before you know it!
